aloha from hawaii
i am here in waikiki sitting at an internet cafe... i must say this is one of the best vacations ever! eric and i are here in waikiki/honolulu for the week. it is beautiful! the weather can't be any more perfect. it's february and it's on average 78 degrees! it's so warm! we've been here since saturday so here is a quick update of what we've been up to...
saturday - we leave for hawaii. the plane ride over here was pretty long. i've never been anywhere farther than seattle, washington so the plane ride for me was long. we had breakfast on the plane and that was ok. we watched "friday night lights" and that was a pretty good movie. once we arrived here and got off the plane, you could feel how warm it is. it's february and everywhere you look, everyone is wearing shorts and tank top. on our way to our hotel, you can see the people on the beach and they were in their bathing suits just walking around. the first thing we did when we got here was go to the international marketplace. it is literally right next to our hotel. we had a late lunch and then we just walked around waikiki for a little bit. then eric's cousin, joe and his girlfriend michelle, came to pic us up and we went to the marley fest at the aloha tower. hold on... let me back up a little. before we left for hawaii, eric found out that his cousin would be here the same time as us so it's cool that we had people to hang out with. ok... so we went to marley fest at the aloha tower and it was a lot of fun. great reggae bands played and it was pretty cool.
sunday - eric and i woke up early and we went the swap meet at the aloha stadium. oh my goodness, that was big. i've heard that it was big, but it's HUGE! it was cool cause we got a lot of souvenirs for people. everything was pretty cheap. it was really warm when we were there... while we were walking around, i was munching on pineapple with li hing powder, yum! after two hours of shopping in the sun, we headed over to the condo that joe and michelle were staying and we watched the superbowl. they're both chefs at le colonial (joe) and ponzu (michelle) in the city so they cooked up a gourmet meal for us that consisted of gyoza, edemame, new york steak, crab legs with black bean sauce, potatoes with soy sauce, and just a bunch of other munchies. it was soooooo good. after the superbowl, eric and i headed to ala moana mall and walked around. then we headed back to the hotel and walked around waikiki. we went in front of duke's statue and called sheryl and glenn, who i danced for in front of who knows who! then we went to the international market again where eric and i got rings with our hawaiian names on it. then we went to dukes, where i got a lava flow! yum! the lava flows came highly recommended from rachael ray.
we've done a lot more and that update will come later... time is up here at the internet cafe. it's only $0.99/10 minutes but i don't want to spend too much money! more later when we come home... if we decide to come home! aloha and mahalo for reading!
